The legendaryDANBURY
TRASHERS

Welcome to the exhilarating world of the Danbury Trashers, a legendary ice hockey team that ignited the hearts of fans and redefined the game! Founded in 2004 as an expansion team in the United Hockey League (UHL), we burst onto the scene with a passion for the sport that was unparalleled.

Named after our visionary owner’s business in waste management, the Trashers brought a unique flair to the ice. Under the leadership of James Galante, a prominent figure in the waste disposal industry, we embraced the challenge of becoming a force to be reckoned with in the UHL.

Guided by James Galante’s unwavering dedication, we invested in transforming the Danbury Ice Arena from a 750-seat facility to a magnificent 3,000-seat venue. The upgraded arena became our battleground, where we showcased our fearless and bullish style of play that quickly gained notoriety.

During our thrilling first season, we made headlines with our physical and tenacious approach, setting a league record for penalty minutes. Our spirited performances captivated audiences, and we finished an impressive second in our division. As the playoffs unfolded, we faced formidable opponents, including the eventual Colonial Cup champions, the Muskegon Fury.

The following year, our momentum soared to new heights as we clinched the Eastern Division title and reached the finals. We showcased our determination by handing the Kalamazoo Wings their only loss of the playoffs, demonstrating our unwavering spirit on the ice.

Through our journey, we became more than a team; we became a symbol of resilience and the “Evil Empire of the UHL.” Our roster was a blend of tough players like Garrett Burnett, Rumun Ndur, and Brad Wingfield, alongside skillful talents like Jim Duhart, Brent Gretzky, and Michael Rupp.

Though our path faced challenges, we stayed united as a team, rising above adversities with determination and tenacity. Our loyal fans supported us with unwavering enthusiasm, making each game an unforgettable experience.

While our journey as the Danbury Trashers may have come to an end, our legacy lives on, inspiring fans and players alike. The passion for hockey continues at the Danbury Ice Arena with the women’s Connecticut Whale (Premier Hockey Federation) and the Danbury Hat Tricks (Federal Prospects Hockey League), carrying forward the spirit of the Trashers.

We invite you to relive the glory days of the Danbury Trashers, where every moment on the ice was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and the pursuit of greatness. Join us in celebrating the rich history of a team that left an indelible mark on the sport of ice hockey, and remember – Once a Trasher, always a Trasher!
